Who is the Aqeeqah for?
Two — the sunnah for a boy. You may choose one if you prefer.
The name is mentioned at the time of slaughter — “this is the ‘aqīqah of [name]” — and prints on every label.
When is the ‘aqīqah due?
Enter the baby’s birth date — we’ll find the sunnah day.
Why the 7th day — from the Sunnah:“Every child is pledged by his ‘aqīqah — slaughtered for him on his seventh day, his head shaved, and he is named.” Samurah ibn Jundub · Abū Dāwūd · Tirmidhī · Nasā’ī · sahih
If the 7th passes: “It is slaughtered on the seventh, the fourteenth, or the twenty-first.” — Buraydah · al-Tabarānī & al-Bayhaqī · sahih. After the 21st, most scholars permit the ‘aqīqah on any day.
The words at the slaughter: “Bismillah, Allāhu akbar” with the child’s name — this is the ‘aqīqah of [name] — is what is authentically established. (A longer du‘a is also reported by al-Bayhaqī from Aisha (RA); scholars differ on its strength, so we keep to what is firm.)
A vow is a debt, and we treat it with that weight. Tell us anything we should know and we will fulfill it exactly as you intend.
